Time.is in Danish!

1

Time.is is a very simple website where you can find the exact time for just about any country or time zone.

I’ve recently made a Danish translation of the website which should be default for all Danish browsers. You can find it here.

Multi-Touch Trackpad Trick for Google Chrome

3

If you’re using Google Chrome on of the newer MacBooks with a multi-touch trackpad, continue to read. I’ve discovered that you can actually get Exposé in Chrome. Well… sort of. :)

Type “about:flags” into your browser. Here you can activate experimental features. This trackpad trick is one of them, it’s called “Tab Overview”. Just find it on the list and activate it.

When you have done that, try using three fingers to drag down on your trackpad in Chrome, and all tabs will show up. Just like Exposé, except that uses four fingers.

Even though it’s experimental, I haven’t had any problems so far. I don’t really know if this is useful either, but it’s cool. :)

New Page with My Backgrounds!

1

backgrounds
In the last month I’ve started to do a little image editing myself. Not anything special, but I’ve created several 1920 x 1200 backgrounds which I would like to share with all of you.

You can find my new page in the menu, it’s of course named ‘Backgrounds‘. I know they aren’t pro or anything, I just like them myself. :)

You can use them for personal use for free, but please don’t remove the small credit text in the corner. If you want to use them for commercial use or anything like that, contact me before doing so.

Make Words or Sentences More Fun

3

Just a little tip, which you may or may not find useful. :)

Actually, it’s a website called funicode.pirillo.com. It’s a very simple website where you can transform words or sentences into something more funny. Here’s some examples:

ⓜⓐⓢⓣⓔⓡⓙⓐⓝ.ⓒⓞⓜ
爪丹ち匕モ尺J丹れ.匚口爪
ʍɑʂէҽɾյɑղ.ϲօʍ
(\/)4573rj4n.c0(\/)

Quite pointless, actually, but I think it’s pretty fun sometimes when I’m chatting with my friends.
But maybe that’s just me, check it out if you want. :)

How to Start Programming on Mac

mac_programming_book
I’ve never really been into the programming stuff, you know, making applications by writing code. I do know some basic web languages, like HTML and CSS, but not much more than that.

That’s why I recently bought this book on Amazon. “Beginning Mac Programming – Develop with Objective-C and Cocoa” by Tim Isted. I’ve already read some of the chapters, but from now on I’ll try to take it seriously and see if I can actually learn to make real apps.

The book is for beginners with no knowledge, so if you got a Mac you can go buy it as well. :)

Twitter for Mac Review

Twitter_for Mac_iconOne of the first applications I downloaded in the Mac App Store was Twitter for Mac. It’s a new version of an earlier Twitter client called Tweetie. You’ll also need a Twitter account of course.

The application is completely free and you can easily download it if you got the newest OS X Snow Leopard update with the Mac App Store.

This is how the user interface looks.

It looks very good, as you can. Everything is simple and feels very natural to use because of beautiful slides when something is clicked.

One the left side we got a menu with 6 buttons:
timeline – shows you all the Tweets from the people you’re following
mentions – Tweets where you’re mentioned
messages – your direct messages
lists – your lists
profile – your own profile
search – the search feature with the current trending topics

So basically you have access to almost the same features as on the website. Very well done, I think, especially when you consider how beautiful the design is.

When you want to write a new Tweet you can just click on the little arrow under the menu and a new little window comes up.

You can also shorten links, retweet and favorite Tweets as well.

Basically it’s like Twitter for iPhone. It works very well and it’s easy to use. Overall I really like it, now I don’t need to have my browser open anymore just to check Twitter. :)

Good: great design, free
Bad: might be too simple for some users

If you want to try Twitter for Mac out download it here.
There are also other clients available, like TweetDeck, but I haven’t used them.

It’s now possible to follow me on DailyBooth too!

DailyBooth is a little bit like Twitter, just with photos instead of Tweets.

Paint for Mac?

1

As you know I recently got a Mac. The other day when taking notes in a class, I was wondering why I couldn’t find a simple drawing/paint program in OS X… Apparently Macs just do have that included out of the box, so I decided to find one.

A quick search let me to Paintbrush. It works pretty much like MS Paint and it’s even open-source, so what more can I ask for? You can download it here.

Just a quick tip to all the other Mac-noobs out there just like me. :)

No More Spam!

4

Almost since I started blogging here, I’ve been getting an awful lot of spam comments, which of course really annoys me. So, for not long time ago, I decided that I had to do something about it, and I found two great solutions. Both exist as plugins for WordPress, which is what I’m currently using here.

The first one was Google’s reCAPTCHA, which I’m sure you know or have seen before. It basically asks you to type in some letters on a picture, before you can continue with something, in my case, submitting a comment.
The second I found was Akismet, which is a spam filtering service. Whenever someone comments a post here, Akismet will check to see if it’s a spam comment or not. It’s actually included in WordPress from the start, but you’ll need a key on their website to activate it. I think WordPress.com users get one automatically.

So, what did I choose? I decided to go with Akismet because I think reCAPTCHA annoys the user a bit too much, when they just want to say something. Until now, it’s been working great. It has protected me from 73 spam comments, and all of them actually were spam! So of course I will continue to use this from now, and keep an eye on all comments to see if it actually makes an error in the future.

I highly recommend you to try Akismet out if you’re having spam problems. Keep in mind, that I never tried reCAPTCHA out.
