Funny Opera Speed Test
0Opera has just uploaded a new funny “potato speed test” of their browser. It looks like they’ve tried to make fun of the speed tests Google made of Chrome some weeks ago (link).
Enjoy!
Chrome stable for Mac and Linux!
0Just a quick update. Google Chrome has only been in beta for Mac and Linux for quite some time, but from today there will also be a stable version.
Google has just made a blog post about it: A new Chrome stable release: Welcome, Mac and Linux!
I just downloaded for Ubuntu and I haven’t really noticed anything new, but according to Google there are new features, including new HTML5 features.
Google Chrome has been my default browser for quite some time now. It’s a lot faster than other browsers, so you should really try it! Especially if you’re still using Internet Explorer.

One Year Until Jack Sparrow Returns
0From today, there is now one year back until the premiere of the next movie with Captain Jack Sparrow. It’s going to be called ”Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” and it’s of course the fourth Pirates movie.
I’ve always been a very, very big fan of the movies. Many years ago, I saw the first movie on Disney Channel. I thought it was great, and when I heard there were 2 more movies coming, making it a trilogy, it was hard to wait. In more than one year, I waited for the second and third movie. When I finally saw them, I thought they were awesome, and do still have that opinion. I do know, that many people think only the first one is good, but I like them all.
So now, I’m once again waiting for Jack Sparrow to return. The movie’s release date should, according to IMDB, be May 20th in the USA, but I think it’ll be the same date in many countries.
Filming is set to begin June 14, 2010 in Hawaii, according to Wikipedia. It has recently been confirmed, that the movie should be filmed in 3D, which I think is nice, but I don’t think it’ll make much of a difference.
A couple of the old actors will return, including of course Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow. Geoffrey Rush should also return as Captain Barbossa. See more at IMDB.com
Here is the old trailer for the third film. I still think it’s great!
Now Using Ubuntu!
2I’ve decided to try Ubuntu, an open-source OS. After lots of problem with my Linksys WUSB600N wireless network adapter, everything is now working and I’m connected to the Internet with Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit. Lots of people are having problems with this device, so I might be posting a guide later.
Until now, I like everything, this OS is just awesome! It’s loaded with lots of applications from the start like OpenOffice and Firefox, which is nice. The only bad thing is, that if I want to play many of my favorite games, then I’ll have to use Windows.
You can read more about it at Ubuntu.com. Just a tip from me… Don’t install it if you aren’t sure that your hardware will work! Many things only work with Windows and sometimes Mac.
Back to LOTRO
1Very long time ago, I bought The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO), an online game like World of Warcraft. I played it for some time, but the game didn’t really seem interesting, so I didn’t play it much. Only a week or so, I think.
I’ve been playing this game again for some days now, because I can play for free in this “Welcome Back Week” which is this week. I decided to create a human hunter, and it’s actually very fun! That’s why I’m now considering to start playing the game again. I’m not sure yet, because I don’t want to waste all of my time on an online games like this.
Anyway, I’ve taking some screenshots you can look at:
The game is running in “ultra high” on all the screenshots.
Awesome Chinese Military Shovel
1Have you ever seen a shovel which can cut trees down AND be used as a scissor? This shovel does everything…
Apple’s Thoughts on Flash
1For a few days ago, Steve Jobs(Apple’s CEO) wrote a long message at Apple’s website about why they don’t accept Flash on their mobile devices, including iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. You should really read it, especially if you hate them for not allowing Flash.
Steve’s conclusions is:
Flash was created during the PC era – for PCs and mice. Flash is a successful business for Adobe, and we can understand why they want to push it beyond PCs. But the mobile era is about low power devices, touch interfaces and open web standards – all areas where Flash falls short.
The avalanche of media outlets offering their content for Apple’s mobile devices demonstrates that Flash is no longer necessary to watch video or consume any kind of web content. And the 200,000 apps on Apple’s App Store proves that Flash isn’t necessary for tens of thousands of developers to create graphically rich applications, including games.
New open standards created in the mobile era, such as HTML5, will win on mobile devices (and PCs too). Perhaps Adobe should focus more on creating great HTML5 tools for the future, and less on criticizing Apple for leaving the past behind.
I think he is pretty much right. I don’t need Flash 90% of the time I’m using my iPhone anyway. What do you think?
